The South African Army (SA Army) invites young South African citizens to apply for the Military Skills Trainee Programme 2026. This programme offers successful applicants the opportunity to serve the country on a two-year contract, while gaining valuable military training, discipline, and job-related skills.

Programme Locations

Successful candidates may be placed in any of the following provinces:

• Gauteng
• Eastern Cape
• Free State
• Northern Cape
• Limpopo
• Mpumalanga
• Western Cape
• North West
• KwaZulu-Natal (KZN)

Applicants must be willing to serve anywhere in South Africa.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

• Must be South African citizens only
• Must be 18 to 22 years old with a completed Grade 12
• OR up to 26 years old with Grade 12 and a 3-year tertiary qualification (360 credits)
• Grade 12 with an average of 50% or Level 4
  • Mathematics and Physical Science will be advantageous
• Admission Point Score (APS) of 17, excluding Life Orientation
• Must demonstrate leadership potential
• Must not be area-bound
• Must have no criminal record
• Must comply with medical fitness requirements
• Must meet height and weight standards

Females

• Minimum height: 1480 mm
• Minimum weight: 48 kg

Males

• Minimum height: 1550 mm
• Maximum height: 1900 mm
• Minimum weight: 52 kg
